Dorm Cleaning Supplies You Should Bring with You

Dorm cleaning was something I dreaded doing when moving into college because I had no idea how to go about it! But luckily my roommate was a neat freak and taught me everything about dorm cleaning!
Seriously, keeping your dorm clean isn’t that difficult. With the right cleaning supplies, you’ll be done cleaning your room in just under an hour! Having a clean space is vital because it’ll keep you happy and more driven!
I have rounded up a list of my (and my roommate’s) favorite dorm cleaning supplies that are guaranteed to make your room clean and tidy in no time.

1. All Purpose Cleaner
An All-Purpose Cleaner is a very important dorm cleaning product that makes cleaning any surface a breeze. I don’t know how I could have survived dorm life without one of these!
Desks, countertops, sinks, mirrors, etc can get dusty. But luckily, with an all purpose cleaner all you need to do is give everything a really good spray and wipe it off! It’s such an easy way to clean all the surfaces in your dorm room.
2. Cordless Vacuum Cleaner
Bringing a vacuum cleaner is a no-brainer! They are so important to bring with you to college for cleaning up dust and debris. You don’t have to bring the large ones as you might have at home, you only need a small handheld one to use in the dorm rooms. They don’t take up much space, charge easily, and are super effective too.
If you have a larger dorm room with more area to clean, then you might want to get this upright vacuum cleaner. But buy a good quality one, seriously. It’ll last longer to serve its purpose!
Most dorms provide vacuum cleaners for communal use but they’ll be heavy and not exactly available when you need them. So better to have one handy!
3. Paper Towels
Paper towels are something you should have in your cleaning arsenal. I mainly used them for wiping down wet surfaces after I’ve sprayed the all-purpose cleaner on them.
You can even use them as napkins when you’re eating in your dorm room or cleaning up spills, Having a roll or two of paper towels around the room will be helpful – saves you time from washing towels!
4. Disinfecting Wipes
Disinfectant wipes are a convenient way to clean dirt and grime from hard surfaces and disinfect them by killing germs, bacteria, etc. They serve the same purpose as an all-purpose cleaner. However, I used wipes for quick clean-ups and all-purpose sprays for a more thorough dorm cleaning!
I always kept a container of disinfectant wipes stowed in my desk and under my bed for easy access. They’re super helpful for doing a quick cleaning of surfaces like dressers, tables, mirrors, doorknobs, etc, or cleaning sticky surfaces caused by coffee rings, spilled juice, etc. They’re also super handy if you or your roommate catches a cold.
5. Magic Eraser
Such a great dorm cleaning supply to have in hand. These magic stain erasers are great for removing smudges from walls, door handles, light switches, etc. All you need to do is simply wet and wipe the area and allow the spot to air-dry. They are perfect for getting scuffs and even permanent marker stains from walls.
6. Trash Bags
Dorms usually provide small trashcans for your room, but you will need to buy some trash bags yourself. Scented trash bags are essential to keep your dorm from smelling nasty. Don’t forget to take a couple of packs of them before you move into your dorm room.
7. Air Freshener Spray
Dorm rooms can get really stuffy and smelly. And no matter how well you’ve cleaned your dorm room, you still can’t seem to get rid of that college dorm odor. It’s during these moments that an air freshener spray comes super handy.
I love this air freshener from Febreze and have always used them. They’re great for eliminating unpleasant odors and keeping your room smelling clean and fresh.
8. Laundry Hamper
A laundry hamper is an easy way to keep your dorm room clean by storing all your dirty clothes in one place instead of having them strewn everywhere. I like this collapsible laundry hamper because it comes with two bags, one for dirty clothes and the other for bringing clean clothes back from the laundry room.
